UGA swim coach actively recruiting Missy Franklin

Could America's favorite new swimmer soon be a Georgia Bulldog?  Maybe.  Missy Franklin, who has captivated audiences by winning four gold medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics, said Sunday night in a televised interview that UGA is on the list of schools she's considering for her college career.

Missy Franklin told NBC's Bob Costas during a televised interview on Sunday that she is considering several schools, and that the University of Georgia is among them.  Franklin said she is also looking at Cal-Berkeley, USC and "maybe Texas."

On Monday, FOX 5 Sports caught up with UGA swim coach Jack Bauerle, who said that he is actively recruiting Franklin.  He also said she had an official visit to UGA last December.

"What we sell to any recruit is the fact that we have a program of excellence and it's been excellent for a while, not just for a short time," said Bauerle. "We haven't lost a home duel meet for 16 years. That's a good selling point."

When asked what he would think of having an Olympic gold medal winner on campus, quarterback Aaron Murray told FOX 5 Sports he would "love it" if Franklin picked UGA.

According to sources, Franklin has not made a final decision on attending college yet.  She is a senior at Regis Jesuit High School in Denver.
